Brevan Records was set up in early
2004 in conjunction with a CD
project we had planned. Our first CD
single was a re-release of a 1954
David Whitfield Christmas recording
(Santo Natale) which had reached
number 2 in the charts that year.
The project was in memory of my late
wife Brenda who sadly had died from
cancer in August 2003 and to raise
money for Cancer Research UK.
The project exceeded our wildest
dreams and over 9,000 CDs were sold
raising over £20,000 for Cancer
Research UK. All profits from the CD
were donated to the charity.
Virgin Megastores kindly stocked the
CD at all their stores throughout
the UK at no profit to themselves.
As a result of this Santo Natale
reached the dizzy heights of No.21
in the Indies Singles Chart and
No.93 in the National Charts. The
Hull branch of Virgin Megastores
sold out their stock within an hour
of going on sale, Hull being David
Whitfield's home town.
The project identified a large David
Whitfield following throughout the
UK and we received hundreds of
letters from fans about their
memories of David Whitfield.
